This extra-large size 83mm fully polished Septarian sphere from Madagascar is an outstanding premium-quality specimen with exceptionally varied classic “Dragon Stone” patterning throughout. Limestone sections form an incredible assortment of angular, rounded and irregular shapes, with many consistently outlined by rich dark brown crystalline Aragonite. The limestone itself ranges from darker gray to lighter gray, tan and yellowish-beige tones, creating even more variation as the sphere is turned. Extensive honey-yellow crystalline Calcite fills the areas between many of these formations, with numerous translucent and gemmy sections that allow you to see into the crystal structure beneath the polished surface. Internal crystal boundaries and natural fractures are clearly visible throughout the Calcite, creating the appearance of individual interlocking crystal clusters, while some areas can display a subtle iridescent rainbow shimmer at certain angles under bright light.

Septarian is a type of sedimentary concretion formed when internal cracks developed within ancient nodules and were later filled by minerals such as Calcite and Aragonite. Madagascar Septarian is approximately 160 million years old, dating to the Jurassic period. The resulting network of mineral-filled fractures produces the dramatic natural patterns seen throughout each piece.
