Septarian Dragon Stone Sphere, Large 61.2mm, Polished Crystal Ball from Madagascar (341.3g)

This large size 61.2mm fully polished Septarian sphere from Madagascar is an unusually distinctive piece dominated by rich honey, caramel and golden-brown tones. Large areas of translucent honey-colored crystalline material allow light to penetrate beneath the polished surface, revealing internal layers, mineral boundaries and crystal formations. Deep gray limestone provides dramatic contrast and is bordered by thick golden-yellow crystalline material rather than the darker brown borders more commonly seen in Septarian. Together, the warm translucent sections, golden crystalline borders and dark limestone create an exceptionally striking natural pattern that changes considerably as the sphere is turned.

Septarian is a type of sedimentary concretion formed when internal cracks developed within ancient nodules and were later filled by minerals such as Calcite and Aragonite. Madagascar Septarian is approximately 160 million years old, dating to the Jurassic period. The resulting network of mineral-filled fractures produces the dramatic natural patterns seen throughout each piece.
