Septarian Dragon Stone Sphere, Medium 52mm, Calcite, Aragonite, & Limestone, Ancient Combo from Madagascar

This medium size fully polished Septarian sphere from Madagascar has a striking high-contrast appearance, with unusually dark gray-brown limestone sections surrounded by thinner borders of lighter brown Aragonite and golden-yellow crystalline Calcite. The angular limestone sections and intersecting mineral-filled veins create the sought-after scale-like “Dragon Stone” pattern, while additional orange mineral material branches through several areas and gives portions of the sphere an almost brecciated appearance. White crystalline areas occur throughout some of the veins, along with several tiny druzy pockets that add another layer of natural detail.

Septarian is a type of sedimentary concretion formed when internal cracks developed within ancient nodules and were later filled by minerals such as Calcite and Aragonite. Madagascar Septarian is approximately 160 million years old, dating to the Jurassic period. The resulting network of mineral-filled fractures produces the dramatic natural patterns seen throughout each piece.
