Red Amber Fossil Stone, 39.40g Natural Hand Polished, Large 60.6mm Freeform from Sumatra Indonesia

This beautiful large Red Sumatra Amber from Indonesia is an exceptionally uncommon example of this fascinating material, professionally cut and fully hand polished into a substantial freeform shape that is close to an oval. In normal lighting, the Amber appears extremely deep wine-red to burgundy, but when a strong light is placed behind it, its remarkable translucency becomes visible and the piece glows a rich, vibrant red. Natural cream-colored inclusions create striking contrast within the dark Amber, while sunlight can reveal subtle hints of blue-green that are difficult to capture in photographs or video. Even more dramatically, this material is highly UV reactive and fluoresces a brilliant blue under both shortwave and longwave UV light. This is the largest piece remaining from a special batch I personally imported directly from Indonesia approximately 10 years ago and have held onto ever since.
