You will receive the exact Pietersite gemstone sphere shown in the photos. This small—but not tiny—36.6mm sphere weighs approximately 68.4 grams / 2.41 oz and displays rich deep red chatoyancy accented by golden-yellow flashes, fibrous amphibole structure, pyrite inclusions, and additional natural mineral inclusions throughout the stone.
One of the most striking features of this piece is the way the red chatoyancy dominates the sphere in broad layered sections while the golden-yellow flash appears naturally woven between the darker fibrous structure. Unlike some Pietersite pieces that display highly chaotic swirling movement, this sphere has a more structured and layered appearance with isolated areas of shifting color that transition between deep red, bronze, and golden tones depending on viewing angle.
Several sections contain visible fibrous whitish amphibole areas and opaque mineral inclusions naturally embedded within the material, adding extra contrast throughout the sphere. Some of these lighter fibrous areas almost resemble petrified wood grain patterns in person and give the sphere a very earthy, natural appearance alongside the brighter reflective chatoyancy.
The combination of deep red coloration, warm golden flash, darker matrix material, and scattered mineral inclusions gives this sphere a balanced and visually interesting appearance without relying on overly chaotic movement. Certain areas display especially strong red chatoyancy with layered reflective bands that glow intensely under direct light, while other sections reveal smaller golden flashes hidden deeper within the material.
This is a genuine natural Pietersite sphere that has been carefully shaped and polished to highlight the stone’s natural structure, layered fiber patterns, and shifting chatoyancy.
Pietersite is often referred to as the “Tempest Stone” because of its chaotic fibrous patterns and storm-like light-play. No two pieces ever display movement exactly the same way, which is part of what makes this material so fascinating to collectors—and one of my personal favorite minerals.
Even at this smaller size, the sphere still has excellent visual presence and displays beautiful reflective movement from multiple angles under shifting light.
True commercial Pietersite is primarily mined in Namibia and China. Based on appearance and material quality, this sphere is most likely Namibian material, though exact mine origin cannot be guaranteed without laboratory testing.
I do my best to photograph and video each piece as accurately as possible so the colors and appearance closely match what I see in person. Many customers have told me their items looked even better in hand than they expected from the photos alone. You will receive the exact sphere shown—no substitutions, no unwanted surprises. What you see is what you get!
