You will receive the exact Pietersite gemstone sphere shown in the photos. This small—but not tiny—37.2mm sphere weighs approximately 75 grams / 2.65 oz and displays a beautiful swirling combination of deep blue, reddish-bronze, fiery orange, and golden chatoyancy throughout the stone.
One of the most distinctive features of this piece is its flowing painterly appearance. Rather than displaying highly chaotic flashes, this sphere has a more fluid layered structure with colors that swirl and weave together almost like poured paint or marbled brush strokes beneath the polished surface. In some areas where the red and blue flow together, it reminds me of the popular druzy agate pendants. Deep blues and reddish tones blend naturally throughout the material, while flashes of bronze, gold, and fiery orange appear under shifting light.
Several areas reveal lighter quartz-rich sections with a subtle bluish tint, along with organic-looking fibrous inclusions that add additional depth and character throughout the sphere. There are also visible pyrite inclusions and reflective mineral textures scattered throughout the material, giving the piece an especially natural and layered appearance in person.
This is a genuine natural Pietersite sphere that has been carefully shaped and polished to highlight the stone’s natural movement, layered structure, and chatoyant fiber patterns. One small area of natural surface pitting was left untouched during polishing and is shown clearly in the photos. This is a natural characteristic within the material and does not affect the stability or overall beauty of the sphere.
Pietersite is often referred to as the “Tempest Stone” because of its chaotic fibrous patterns and storm-like light-play. No two pieces ever display movement exactly the same way, which is part of what makes this material so fascinating to collectors— and one of my personal favorite minerals.
Even at this smaller size, the sphere still has a strong visual presence and displays beautiful flowing movement throughout the material from nearly every angle.
True commercial Pietersite is primarily mined in Namibia and China. Based on appearance and material quality, this sphere is most likely Namibian material, though exact mine origin cannot be guaranteed without laboratory testing.
I do my best to photograph and video each piece as accurately as possible so the colors and appearance closely match what I see in person. Many customers have told me their items looked even better in hand than they expected from the photos alone. You will receive the exact sphere shown—no substitutions, no unwanted surprises. What you see is what you get!
