You will receive the exact Pietersite gemstone sphere shown in the photos. This medium-large 56mm sphere weighs approximately 241.8 grams / 8.53 oz (just over 1/2 lb) and displays rich red, gold, and earthy chatoyancy with visible pyrite inclusions and dramatic swirling movement throughout the stone.
This piece has a very different personality compared to many Pietersite spheres that are dominated by strong blue flash. Instead, this sphere displays warmer storm-like tones with glowing gold chatoyancy, deep reddish-brown areas, visible pyrite, and sections where the original fibrous amphibole structure can still be seen within lighter quartz-rich areas of the material.
This is a genuine natural Pietersite sphere that has been shaped and polished to highlight the unique patterns, natural inclusions, and shifting light-play found throughout the stone. Rather than relying on intense flash alone, this piece stands out because of its unusual combination of earthy colors, visible mineral structure, pyrite inclusions, and chaotic swirling character.
Pietersite is often referred to as the “Tempest Stone” because of its chaotic fibrous patterns and constantly shifting light-play that can appear almost storm-like depending on lighting and viewing angle. No two pieces ever seem to reflect light exactly the same way, which is part of what makes this material so fascinating to collectors—and one of my own personal favorite minerals.
Good quality Pietersite spheres with strong movement, character, and natural chatoyancy have become increasingly difficult to source consistently over the years, especially in larger polished pieces like this one.
True commercial Pietersite is primarily mined in Namibia and China. Based on appearance and material quality, this sphere is most likely Namibian material, though exact mine origin cannot be guaranteed without laboratory testing.
I do my best to photograph and video each piece as accurately as possible so the colors and appearance closely match what I see in person. Many customers have told me their items looked even better in hand than they expected from the photos alone. You will receive the exact sphere shown—no substitutions, no unwanted surprises. What you see is what you get!
